Idea and concept
The Federal Horticultural Show 2009 in Schwerin was a special exhibition. Three features at once made it stand out from the more than 50-year history of federal garden shows: The focus of the exhibition, which ran from 23 April 2009 to 11 October 2009, was the historical development of horticulture from the 18th century to the present day. On the other hand, the BUGA in the state capital of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania was a very compact show. All the exhibition areas were arranged around Schwerin Castle in the immediate vicinity of the old town. Short distances were therefore characteristic of the 2009 Federal Horticultural Show, and the gardens of the Schwerin show were all located on the waterfront, thus turning the state capital towards the water. Since this was only partially the case before the BUGA, this part of the Federal Horticultural Show 2009 can also be seen as an urban development concept.
